In January 2020, a 19-year-old Nikolai Majorov reached the European Championship final.

It was a bloody breakthrough on the international stage, a meritorious 15th place and a place at the World Cup later in the spring.

The corona pandemic managed to paralyze the world before the World Cup debut became a reality and the then 19-year-old Nikolai Majorov's breakthrough season came to an end.

- It was a hell of a summer for me.

It was a very deep depression that just came from nowhere.

I fell on a workout and fell very hard.

Then I felt: why am I doing this now?

He continues:

- What is the point of me fighting, developing, killing myself.

For what?

Everything is set.

Big brother Alexander tipped about a psychologist who helped Nikolai find his way back to joy.

He realized he had to put training aside and just do what he wanted.

- I shit in training for a few days and go and do exactly what I felt for.

So I did it and it got a lot easier.

What saved me was both metal (the music).

And competition.

It got me started fighting again.

In September, a real show of strength came at the international competition premiere in Obersdorf.

Third place where both surprised and gives hope for the upcoming World Cup in an audience-free Globen.

- I just see it as an advantage.

I know that the Russians are still driving with an audience.

Many people are used to having this public support.

For me, it will be like a regular home competition.

I just see it positively.
