The story is legendary.

Although the whole thing happened ten years ago, you hear the story over and over again.

It is laughingly told by fans, reporters or club employees.

And it goes like this:

On January 31, 2011, then HSV player Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting faxed his new contract to the German Football League (DFL).

Problem: The crucial page with his signature arrived a few minutes too late due to a technical breakdown, after the 6 p.m. deadline - and the move to 1. FC Köln failed.

Ten years later, with the exception of Uli Hoeneß, hardly anyone uses a fax anymore, e-mail has long been commonplace, and for many in the era of app alternatives, it is already a thing of the past.

And again there are problems with Choupo-Moting.

That's why the 31-year-old offensive professional, who now plays for FC Bayern, will not be in Cameroon's World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde (March 26th) and Rwanda (March 30th).

As in the fax affair, the reason is extremely curious: the Cameroon Association apparently sent the invitation for Choupo-Moting for the games to the wrong e-mail address.

Cameroon's Portuguese coach Antonio Conceicao said at a press conference that Choupo-Moting had not responded to the association's request.

Camille Just Choupo-Moting, father and manager of the professional, emphasized on “Naja TV”: “Apparently you sent the invitation to a wrong e-mail address and only noticed it on Monday.

That is a lack of professionalism. "

Father Choupo-Moting continued: “I was contacted by the association to find out what was going on.

I contacted FC Bayern and they confirmed that they had not received the invitation. "

As with the fax back then: the mistake could no longer be corrected.
