It was at the beginning of the year that Amanda Zahui broke her contract with the Russian club Dynamo Kursk because she was injured and needed the help of a specialist doctor in the USA.

- It burns like fire under the foot and stabs like knives in the hamstring, the risk is great that the hamstring goes off if I continue to play, Amanda Zahui told SVT Sport then.

When SVT Sport reaches Amanda Zahui tonight, Swedish time, she says that the injured left foot has been treated with blood that comes from herself.

- They took my blood from places where the body feels good and put it in the foot.

So I got six big syringes straight into my foot, and now I feel much better.

The squad will gather in a month

It has now been two months since the treatment and rehabilitation progressed.

Most recently, she received a positive message.

- Now I have the go-ahead to play and run.

Not 100 percent, but right now maybe 40-50 percent.

But I jump, run and shoot, she says.

Right now, Zahui is one of only two players in place in LA because the other players in the squad play out in Europe.

But the plan is to be back in a month when the squad gathers for pre-season camp.

- Then all players who have received a contract gather and "compete" to get their place in the team if you are not already guaranteed a place.

It is usually very intense and you sort of compete against each other.

This is where you really see who will be really good.

You are hardly friends during the camp, Zahui laughs.

"Slowing down is not on the map"

The Swedish basketball star has previously played for New York Liberty in the WNBA but left when the contract expired.

In mid-February, it became clear that her WNBA adventure would continue in LA Sparks.

Despite the injury problems, Zahui has no plans to slow down.

The goal is still to play in the WNBA and in a European club as well as with the national team.

- That the hamstring has been chaos has given me time to rest my body and build it up so that it will last a long time and for games in many leagues.

- I have so many goals I have not achieved yet, especially with the national team.

I want to play the Olympics and the World Cup and all that.

So slowing down is not on the map yet.
