Yokozuna Hakuho, who took a break from the Sumo Spring Basho due to a knee injury, underwent endoscopic surgery on his right knee at a hospital in Tokyo.

After the surgery, Hakuho's doctor told NHK that it would take at least two months for rehabilitation, etc., and revealed his prospects for a return.

Yokozuna Hakuho complained of anxiety about his right knee, but he returned from four consecutive holidays in the spring and won two consecutive victories from the first day, but was closed from the third day due to an injury to his right knee.

As a result of a medical examination at a hospital in Tokyo, it was diagnosed that surgery was necessary due to damage to the cartilage of the right knee joint.

Hakuho was discharged from the hospital on the 20th after undergoing an operation on his right knee at a hospital in Tokyo on the 19th.

Hakuho's doctor, Kazutaka Sugimoto, director of the Sonodakai Artificial Joint Center Hospital in Adachi-ku, Tokyo, responded to NHK's interview after the surgery.

According to Sugimoto Hospital Director, the surgery was performed using an endoscope, such as smoothing the damaged part of the cartilage on the back of the knee plate.

Regarding the condition of his right knee before surgery, Sugimoto said, "When I drained the water from my knee after the second day's efforts, cartilage fragments came out. Then, in the future, it would become an artificial joint, and the aftereffects would remain. "

Regarding the prospect of Hakuho's return, he said, "In addition to rehabilitation, we will start regenerative medicine for cartilage. It will take at least two months even if we expect special treatment and the resilience of yokozuna."

When Hakuho was closed on the 16th of this month, his master, Miyagino, said, "He is saying,'I'll put everything in the next place in July.'" Hakuho said in July at Nagoya. It was revealed that he intends to move forward and backward.
