FIFA is talking to governments and national football associations to allow as many internationals as possible to play for their country in the coming weeks.

For the time being, this is problematic because many clubs do not want to give up players.

Because of the corona crisis, they would first have to be quarantined for a while when they return.

For that reason, Memphis Depay may miss some international matches from the Dutch national team.

"Of course we want the games to continue and with the best players," FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Friday.

"But I recognize that it will be difficult, especially in Europe. We hope that, under certain conditions, governments are prepared to adjust their policies somewhat."

FIFA's interference may be good news for Orange and Memphis.

French clubs, for example, do not allow internationals to play football in a country outside the European Union in the coming period.

The Dutch national team will play away games against Turkey and Gibraltar in the coming period, both of which do not belong to the EU.

Should Memphis come into action in those countries, Lyon will have to miss him due to the quarantine obligation in the next game after the international period.

The KNVB has therefore applied for dispensation from the French Football Association, so that the attacker does not have to be quarantined when he returns and Lyon can 'just' give him up.

Memphis: 'It's very weird'

Memphis announced on Friday at the press conference prior to Olympique Lyon-Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday that he was not happy with the measure taken by the French Football Association.

"It's very strange. In Kazakhstan, where France will play, there are more corona cases than in several African countries."

"Everyone at Lyon hopes to join their national team. We have to make sure that decisions for the next international matches are taken in harmony," the right foot continued.

"I just hope that we can report to our national selections."

In the coming international period, the Dutch national team will play in the World Cup qualifying series against Turkey (away, on March 24), Latvia (at home, on March 27) and Gibraltar (away, on March 30).

Without dispensation, Memphis can only take action against Latvia.
