The EHV-1 virus broke out during the international jumping competitions in Valencia at the end of February.

The virus spread quickly and is today found in nine countries - with a connection to the competition venue in Spain.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) therefore needed to act.

At the beginning of March, a competition stop was introduced from March 8 to March 28.

On March 12, the FEI decided not to host the World Cup finals in Gothenburg on March 31 - April 4.

And just a few days later, the International Equestrian Federation issued a recommendation to all European nations to extend the competition ban by two weeks.

Extended until April 11

Today the message was taken.

The national competition stop is extended until April 11.

- We have said it before and say it again - this is not for a reason, but to occur.

The welfare of horses must always be our highest priority, says Ulf Brömster, chairman of the Swedish Equestrian Federation.

The EHV-1 virus has so far killed 17 horses and many are infected.
