Two Japanese national team players and coaches who returned from the international fencing competition in Hungary were tested positive for the new coronavirus at Haneda Airport.

In addition to this, three athletes were tested positive when they left Hungary, and the total number of infected people in the Japanese team was five.

17 Japanese national team players and 7 staff members participated in the international fencing tournament held in Hungary until the 14th of this month for the right to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.

After the tournament, three athletes were tested positive for the new coronavirus, and they stayed in the local quarantine facility.

The other 21 people were negative in the local test, but when they returned to Japan on the 16th, the test they received at Haneda Airport revealed that one player and one coach were newly positive.

The two had headaches and low-grade fever and were transferred to a quarantine facility.

All the other players and staff were negative, but for the time being, they will be quarantined at home.

Two more international competitions are scheduled for fencing later this month, of which the team is already in the field in Russia.

In addition, the Federation of Japan Fencing will dispatch a team of athletes to the tournament in Qatar as scheduled at this stage.
