  • Stade Rennais won this Sunday afternoon on their lawn against Strasbourg (1-0).

  • The Breton club thus puts an end to a nasty series of five defeats in a row.

  • For his first at Roazhon Park, the new coach Bruno Genesio had decided to revive players like Benjamin Bourigeaud and Flavien Tait, both decisive.

Cries of joy and long hugs.

The relief was palpable this Sunday afternoon on the faces of Rennes players after their home success against Racing Club de Strasbourg (1-0).

Because it had been a long time, on January 17 precisely, that Stade Rennais had not tasted victory.

In the meantime, the Breton club has had a series of poor performances, plunging in the standings with a series of five straight defeats in Ligue 1. He also changed coaches with the arrival of Bruno Genesio on the bench to replace Julien Stéphan.

For his first at Roazhon Park, the former Lyon coach has therefore won his bet by breaking "the negative spiral" in which the club was stuck.

"It's a victory that feels good, two months after the last one", reacted Bruno Genesio at the end of the meeting, dedicating the victory to President Nicolas Holveck who suffers from cancer.

Paid coaching with the tenure of Bourigeaud and Tait

Welcomed on their arrival at the stadium by hundreds of supporters, who came to celebrate the 120 years of the club, the Rennes players have put an end to the black series.

If they did not necessarily shine in the game, however, they showed much better intentions and did not falter at the end of the game.

"We had the ability to be united, to defend together and to press fairly high," said the Rennes coach, who also appreciated the offensive animation of his team.

"We showed more offensive power and took more risks, we even had opportunities to make the break," he added.

In this match of fear, Bruno Genesio also made strong choices by deciding at the kickoff to revive Benjamin Bourigeaud and Flavien Tait in midfield.

Coaching paid off because the first opened the scoring (25th) with a strike from the right under the bar after a cross from Terrier while the second was named man of the match.

Still in the race for Europe

Often replacing with Julien Stéphan, Flavien Tait already appreciates the Genesio method.

"The coach asks us for more verticality and to try more things," said the former Angevin.

We showed good combinations offensively even if there was still some awkwardness in the last move.

But I remain convinced that if we continue to insist, it will end up paying off ”.

With this success, Stade Rennais, 10th at kick-off, performed well in the standings and climbed two places.

Above all, he remains in the race for Europe.

"There is a lot of joy but it remains measured because we won only one match," said Bruno Genesio.

There are still nine to negotiate well if we really want to be happy at the end of the season ”.
