Hamburger SV has ended its dry spell and moved back to a direct promotion position in the second division.

The team prevailed on Friday evening against leaders VfL Bochum with goals from Amadou Onana (29th minute) and Khaled Narey (89th) with 2-0 (1-0) and are up to two points on the leaders.

The Bochumers were decimated from the 35th minute.

Danny Blum saw the red card for a serious foul and had to leave the field.

The HSV benefits from the bad luck of the neighbor Holstein Kiel.

The promotion rival had to cancel the game at 1. FC Heidenheim, which was planned at the same time, due to a corona outbreak in the team.

The Hamburg team with the better goal difference was able to overtake the Kielers with the same points in second place.

With the success in Bochum, the North Germans ended their series of five games without a win.

Coach Daniel Thioune did not see the phase as a crisis anyway, but merely as a break and demanded: "Time for something to turn for us."

Both teams do not show a top game

The Bochumers burned at the start of the game, were the more toxic team.

They went to the pressing early in the morning, giving the guests little time to build up their attacks.

The North Germans were busy with defensive work, but hardly set any accents on the offensive.

The first HSV action in the Bochum penalty area was initiated by left-back Josha Vagnoman, but ex-Bochum Simon Terodde did not hit the goal (20th).

After that, the Hamburgers found better in the chaotic and competitive game.

As the game progressed, however, hardly anything remained of the expectations of a top duel.

With one standard, however, the HSV was wide awake.

After a free kick by substitute captain Aaron Hunt, Onana dropped the ball over the line.

Even the video assistant had no objections to the goal after checking for suspicion of being offside.

Then the Bochum team lost their line.

Left winger Blum made a rough foul when he jumped Onana in the middle line with stretched legs in the calves and saw red.

In contrast, HSV did not show its numerical superiority and played negligently with its leadership.

Only the substitute Narey released the Hanseatic League with a forceful shot in the corner.

Conclusion: It wasn't a treat, but an extremely important victory for the Thioune troop.

"Until a few years ago, Bochum was the diva of the Ruhr"

Eleven years ago, VfL Bochum had to move into the second division.

Since then, VfL has been far from returning to the House of Lords - until now.
