Frenchman Quentin Fillon-Maillet won the Nove Mesto sprint on Thursday, counting for the Biathlon World Cup.

The 28-year-old Frenchman, author of a clear shot, scored his second victory of the season, the fifth of his career, beating the Norwegian Tarjei Boe and the Italian Lukas Hofer.

Unhappy at the Pokljuka Worlds (no title, only one medal) and left behind in the race for the big crystal globe, his main goal of the winter, the Jura finds his smile and puts pressure on Tarjei Boe to win the 3rd place of the general classification.

The race for the big globe is in full swing

Behind Fillon Maillet, two other French people also shone.

Emilien Jacquelin, crowned world champion in the pursuit for the second time in a row at Pokljuka, failed at the foot of the podium (4th) while Antonin Guigonnat, gold medalist in the mixed single relay at the Worlds (with Julia Simon) , took 6th place, his best result of the season.

The fight for the big crystal globe remains as uncertain as ever.

The Norwegian Sturla Holm Laegreid, revelation of this 2020-2021 exercise (24 years old), finished fifth and grabbed eight points from the leader and double title holder Johannes Boe, only ninth on Thursday.

Laegreid returned to 25 lengths of Boe with four races to go.
