Giggs is accused of assaulting his girlfriend ... and another coach leading the Welsh national team

The Welsh Football Association announced on Wednesday that its country coach, Ryan Giggs, who has been accused since last November of assaulting his girlfriend, will miss the start of the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup Finals.

The former Manchester United star, 47, was arrested after a dispute with his girlfriend Kate Griffel .

Last month, his judicial review was extended until May 1.

The Welsh Football Federation indicated that Robert Page, who also took charge of leading Wales in the Nations League matches last November, will continue to supervise the team, succeeding Giggs, who denies the allegations of abuse.

The continued absence of Giggs casts doubt on whether he will lead his country in the postponed European Cup finals next summer.

"The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have agreed that they will not participate in the next international camp," the Welsh Football Association said in a statement.

"Robert Page will take charge of the next three matches against Belgium, Mexico and the Czech Republic, and Albert Stuyffenberg will assist him, as was the case during the last international window in November," he added.

And led Page Wells to victories over Ireland and Finland in November, thus climbing to the first level in the second edition of the modern continental competition.

The 46-year-old former Welsh international will lead the national team in the first two matches of this month's World Cup qualifiers.

Wells begins their Group E campaign away from home against Belgium, the world number one, on March 24, before hosting the Czech Republic in Cardiff six days later.

Wales is also set to play Mexico in a friendly in Cardiff on the 27th.

Paige will announce his country's squad for the three matches next Monday.

The British newspaper "The Sun" confirmed early last November that the police were summoned to Giggs' house late after news of a disturbance, indicating that he was arrested and interrogated on suspicion of assault and bodily harm.

The newspaper quoted a statement issued by Greater Manchester Police explaining that "the police were called after reports of disturbances. A woman in her thirties was slightly injured but did not require any treatment."

The statement added that "a 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violating Articles 47 and 39 with assault and attack."

But Giggs has denied "all allegations of assault" against his girlfriend, according to a statement issued by his spokesman.

Giggs was appointed coach of Wales in January 2018 after a remarkable career as a player in which he defended his colors in 64 games, winning at the club level 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles, four in the England Cup and three in the English League Cup with Manchester United.
