The Swedish Championships in night orienteering in Österåker, which should have been decided on April 16, seem to be stopped.

The municipality of Österåker, which has consulted Smittskydd Stockholm, writes in its decision that it is not permitted to carry out the Swedish Championships because "no competition activities below the elite level are permitted for infection control reasons".

- It is a mockery of both our sport and our elite runners, says the Swedish Orienteering Association's sports director Tomas Stenström to orienteringsmagasinet.se.

He continues:

- We do not have the large audience, we do not have the well-paid athletes but we have fully dedicated elite runners who are always fighting for the noblest medals at the World Cup.

To then say that a Swedish championship is not an elite level becomes horrible in my opinion.

The hope of a Swedish Championship is still not out, as it can be decided on easing the coronary restrictions in the future.

A final decision must be made no later than March 20, says Stenström.
