The French Kévin Mayer won Sunday in Torun his second title of European champion in heptathlon, during the Euro indoor athletics in Torun.

The world record holder in the decathlon (29), already crowned in Belgrade in 2017, totaled 6,392 points and beat the Spaniard Jorge Urena (6,158 points) and the Pole Pawel Wiesiolek (6,133 points).

He offered the Blues a third medal in the competition, the second in gold after that won by Wilhem Belocian over 60m hurdles.

After having taken the lead at the end of the first day following the first four events on Saturday (6 sec 86 in the 60m, 7.47m in the long jump, 16.32m in weight, 2.04m at the height), Mayer did not falter on Sunday (7 sec 78 to 60 m hurdles, 5.20 m to the pole, 2 min 45 sec 72 over 1000 m).

He will now be able to get started with a free spirit in the preparation for the Tokyo Olympics where he will try this summer to glean the only major title missing from his record.
