Novak Djokovic has been chasing this record for quite some time, but due to the corona pandemic, it took until today before he passed Federer.
He has now been world number one for 311 weeks, which corresponds to almost six years.
Federer has not played tennis since January 2020, but is now ready for a comeback in an ATP tournament in Doha that begins today.
The Swiss still tops the statistics of most grand slam victories.
He and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal have 20 each, while Djokovic is two wins behind.
