Announcing the "historical number one" in the world of tennis

Novak Djokovic, on Monday, became the "historical number one" of the professional players' association after spending his 311st week at the top of the world ranking.

Djokovic, 33, who has 12,030 points, broke the record he shared with Roger Federer, which is 310 weeks.

"It is a great day," the Serbian wrote on his Twitter account.

Noley won his eighteenth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open last month, and is only two behind the record equivalent of Federer and Rafael Nadal (20 each).

"It really excites me to walk the path of the legends and giants of this sport," Djokovic said in a statement issued by the Professional Footballers' Association.

"The idea that I made a place for myself in them by chasing a childhood dream is a wonderful proof that when you do things out of love and passion, anything is possible," he added.
