Invited Sunday from Europe 1 Sport, the former goalkeeper of the Blues spoke of the situation of his former club, struggling in Ligue 1. "Obviously that affects me, it's a terrible mess," he said declared.

INTERVIEW

From his two visits to the Olympique de Marseille, Fabien Barthez has kept precious memories.

During his long career, the former goalkeeper of the Blues wore the OM jersey from 1992 to 1995 then from 2004 to 2006. And if he no longer has any relationship with the Marseille club today , he continues to follow his news.

Invited on Sunday from Europe 1 Sport, he returned to the club's situation, struggling in the league, and shaken by many internal movements, with the departure of Villas-Boas and the replacement of President Jacques-Henri Eyraud by Pablo Longoria.

"I had wonderful moments" at OM, remembers Fabien Barthez, evoking "memories which are part of my career".

In 1993, he notably lifted the first Champions League won by a French club.

"As a footballer, playing in Marseille is wonderful," he said again.

"Obviously it touches me"

However, he specifies, "since 2006, I no longer have any connection with this club".

Still, the 1998 world champion is saddened by the spectacle given by his former club, currently 8th in Ligue 1. "Obviously that touches me, it's a terrible mess," he reacts.
