Sparta Rotterdam captain Adil Auassar is furious about the late penalty kick that his team received deep in injury time of the home game against FC Emmen.

The Drenten took advantage of the windfall and won a 1-1 draw.

"Shit-VAR, I swear," Auassar grumbled on Friday after the game at

.

"You can't defend if you walk towards the ball with your hands behind your back. What a shitting rule."

Thanks to a hit by Laros Duarte - in which Emmen goalkeeper Michael Verrips made a serious mistake - Sparta seemed on its way to victory at De Oude Meerdijk, but in injury time the team from Rotterdam still relinquished the three points.

In the 95th minute, Auassar unfortunately got the ball against his arm in the box.

Referee Danny Makkelie was alerted to the handball by the VAR and subsequently gave the last player Emmen a penalty kick, which was used by Michael de Leeuw.

'Then make your own choice'

Auassar also became frustrated with a conversation with Makkelie prior to the penalty.

"Makkelie himself indicated that he cannot do anything about it and that he finds it annoying. Then make your own choice", he grumbled.

The midfielder was also not served by texts from ESPN analyst Gertjan Verbeek.

"I'm not here to entertain you either," he said to Verbeek.

"I'm here for the three points."

Auassar was satisfied with the way Sparta played for a long time.

"I think we have defended well and had opportunities to extend the lead. It is always difficult to get a goal in the last second."

Due to the draw, Sparta is thirteenth and number sixteen Willem II can approach the team of coach Henk Fraser to four points later this weekend.

Sixteenth place means play-off football at the end of the season.
