MHSC supporters will be banned from staying in Alès (Gard) on Saturday, where their team will face the local club, on the occasion of the round of 16 of the French Football Cup, the Gard prefecture announced on Friday.

The authorities, who fear that supporters of Nîmes (Ligue 1), not far from there, will take advantage of this meeting to come to Alès to face their opponents from Montpellier, have issued a decree "restricting the freedom to go and come ”fans of Laurent Nicollin's club.

No scarf or flag

"Anyone claiming to be a supporter of Montpellier Hérault or behaving as such" may not come to Alès between 8 am and midnight on Saturday, the day of the match, scheduled for 2.15 pm in the grounds of the Alès club.

In particular will be prohibited "any behavior which makes it possible to characterize an individual as a supporter of the MHSC", whether it is the fact of wearing the club jersey, displaying any sign, such as a scarf or a flag, "in the colors or symbols of the MHSC ”and even to“ sing the hymns ”of the Montpellier club.

The prefect of police of Bouches-du-Rhône had taken a partly similar order in August in Marseille, to prohibit the wearing of the PSG jersey in the city on the occasion of the final of the Champions League between the PSG and the Bayern Munich, in order to avoid possible altercations.

This decree was finally repealed the day before the meeting, in the face of "incomprehension" that it had aroused.
