The President of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) Bernard Laporte will be received Friday morning by Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports, and Roxana Maracineanu, Minister Delegate in charge of Sports, as part of the case of the Covid-19 contamination of several players of the XV of France.

The purpose of these interviews will be "the examination of the conclusions of the internal investigation carried out by the French Rugby Federation on the many cases of Covid-19 contamination within the France team" and "will follow a meeting technical on this file Thursday ”, indicates a press release released Thursday.

They will be followed by a meeting with the press.

Twelve players from the XV de France were infected after the Six Nations Tournament match against Ireland on February 14 and the match against Scotland, which was to take place on February 27, had to be postponed.

Roxana Maracineanu had requested an investigation from the FFR, while asking the Ministry of Health, to shed light on the origin of this source of contamination.

Maracineanu, Laporte and the waffles

The FFR released Fabien Galthié from all responsibility, the coach of the France team, who attended a rugby match on February 7 played by his son, thus leaving the sanitary bubble imposed on the national team.

The FFR report must also determine whether the French players, who went out to eat waffles in the streets in Rome before the match against Italy on February 6, also respected this health bubble.

“I don't think it was written in the protocol that players could go out and eat waffles.

Or, if they go out to eat waffles, they had to be retested when they re-entered the bubble in contact with others, ”Ms. Maracineanu had estimated last week.

Bernard Laporte for his part assured that these players "were retested on returning".
