The semi-professional football championships, the men's N2 (4th division) and the women's D2, the resumption of which was expected in mid-March and mid-April, will finally remain at a standstill, announced Wednesday evening the Ministry of Sports of fact "of a strongly degraded health context".

"The divisions of the National 2 male and the 2nd female Division, the resumption of which was initially envisaged in view of the proportion of professional athletes in the clubs of each professional division, will not be able to resume immediately," said the ministry. .

A green light given two weeks ago

This development constitutes an unexpected announcement insofar as the ministry had given the green light in mid-February to this resumption, allowing the teams concerned to resume training.

Roxana Maracineanu “is currently working on a step-by-step plan to give the sporting world the prospect of gradual recovery.

But in the context of the moment when 20 departments are under extreme vigilance and the government is doing everything to postpone confinement, it is unfortunately impossible to envisage today a resumption of amateur or semi-professional divisions, ”added the ministry. .

What about the amateur championships?

These statements further darken the slim hope of a resumption of the amateur football championships, which have stopped since the fall.

On the side of the French Football Federation (FFF), President Noël Le Graët indicated that the season could not go to an end if the resumption did not take place around March 20 at the latest.

On Monday the Minister of Sports had indicated that amateur sport will not restart "for at least a month", echoing the words of Emmanuel Macron, who had called to hold "4 to 6 weeks" before being able to loosen certain constraints related to coronavirus, which brings beyond March 20.

In February, she authorized the resumption of the Coupe de France, a competition combining amateurs and professionals.
