Dimitrios Grammozis will be the new head coach at FC Schalke 04. As the Bundesliga club threatened with relegation announced on Tuesday evening, the 42-year-old football teacher will succeed Christian Gross and signed a contract until June 30, 2022. Grammozis is after David Wagner, Manuel Baum, Huub Stevens and Christian Gross, he is already the fifth coach of the bottom of the table this season.
"We are convinced that with Dimitrios Grammozis we have found the right coach for the last third of the season," said Peter Knäbel, successor to sports director Jochen Schneider, who was released on Sunday with coach Gross.
"We all know about the sporting situation, but regardless of that there are still eleven Bundesliga games to be played - and we want to play them as successfully as possible." Grammozis is "the right choice from our point of view, both professionally and personally".

A demanding task awaits the former Darmstadt coach.
After the troubled Revierclub parted ways with Gross and Schneider as well as team manager Sascha Riether, fitness coach Werner Leuthard and assistant trainer Rainer Widmayer, due to the ongoing sporting downturn, a comprehensive rebuilding is imminent.
Because the distance to relegation place 16 is already nine points, this rebuilding will probably take place in the second division.

Grammozis was a junior coach in Bochum
Its immediate availability was one of the reasons for choosing Grammozis.
The native of Wuppertal is said to have been a candidate when looking for a coach last year.
His experience as a long-time junior coach at VfL Bochum is another advantage.
In the event of relegation, there is a risk of separation from numerous professionals.
This makes the development of talent even more important.
The first test for Grammozis is the cellar duel on Friday with the table penultimate FSV Mainz 05, which many consider to be the last chance in the fight to stay in class.
