The former coach of Olympique Lyonnais (2015-2019) and Beijing Guoan (2019-2021) will try to relieve Rennes, who are going through a bad patch in the French league, after a first campaign completely missed in the Champions League .

He will find Florian Maurice in Brittany, whom he has worked with for a long time at OL.

Stade Rennes chose Bruno Genesio, former OL coach, to succeed Julien Stéphan who has resigned, a source close to the club told AFP on Wednesday, confirming information from the daily

L'Équipe

.

The Breton club announced Monday the resignation of its coach and since then the name of Bruno Genesio circulated in the media as the first choice to succeed him.

The former midfielder, born in Lyon, notably coached OL from 2015 to 2019, before an experience in China at Beijing Guoan (2019-2021).

Coach with a virgin record, but with solid references, Bruno Genesio, 54, finds himself in Ligue 1 in a club which has had little success as an opponent (3 wins in 8 confrontations), but never too far from Lyon either: he will collaborate with Florian Maurice, current technical director of Stade Rennais, another pure "Gone", whom he worked with for more than ten years at OL.

Genesio not on the bench against Lyon

To replace Stéphan, Florian Maurice drew on Monday the robot portrait of his successor, "able to develop the game and trust the young people of the training center" corresponding to the profile of Bruno Genesio.

Appointed in December 2018, Julien Stéphan preferred to throw in the towel after a new defeat last Friday against Nice (2-1), which worsened the Rennes results crisis in 2021 with only one victory in ten matches.

Rennes travels to Lyon on Wednesday evening (7 p.m.) for the 28th day of the Ligue 1 championship, with the interim Philippe Bizeul, former assistant to Stéphan, on the bench.
