  • After the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli, Nasser Larguet should lead his last match on the OM bench against Lille on Wednesday.

  • In a month, this coach, who had never managed a professional squad, has reported serenity in a club that badly needed it.

  • The people who worked with him during his career praise all his human qualities.

It's only a good bye.

The interim coach, even if he does not like this qualifier, of Olympique de Marseille Nasser Larguet will most likely lead his last league match this Wednesday in Lille (9 p.m.).

Jorge Sampaoli, inducted Friday in a statement from owner Franck McCourt, arrived on Tuesday.

But he will not be able to be on the bench against Lille since he must respect a seven-odd isolation after his arrival from Brazil.

Nasser Larguet, 62, in post since the departure of André Villas Boas on February 2, will have made a strong impression with the followers of Ligue 1, but also within his own team, despite his inexperience as a coach of a professional workforce.

“He brought calm.

He managed to bring back unity through healthy competition and straightforward speech.

We can say that he healed us after this bad start to the season.

It didn't happen that it was his first experience.

He was immediately at ease, surely because he knew a lot of young players.

It was very clear, simple, limpid in what he expected from us.

It allowed us to question ourselves, its passage is very positive ”, confided Dimitri Payet on the contribution of Nasser Larguet to the workforce.

"Rather than imposing his ideas, he manages to federate"

A serenity that he was able to bring thanks to his experience as a trainer, he who has spent his entire career training young people in Cannes, Caen, Strasbourg then in Morocco, before returning to France in Caen, then at OM in the summer of 2019 by taking over the training center.

"It comes from my temperament, even when there is fire you have to take a step back and extinguish it with words, and deeds.

Football is played at 11, with a workforce of 30 players, they must all adhere to the project, and whatever the external elements, when they go out on the field they must be focused on performance, ”he explains.

Being able to get people to buy into their project, simply by speaking out, is one of their main assets, which strongly marked their time at the Strasbourg training center.

“He came from Caen and Le Havre and had a big reputation.

But rather than imposing his ideas, he manages to unite and lead people in the same direction.

He manages to take them there without them necessarily realizing it, giving them the impression that the decision is theirs.

And he has the same way of explaining his sessions in the field.

His stay in Strasbourg remains a great memory, these three years were too short, but he left only good memories.

He serves as a reference, he's a bit of a spiritual father, ”recounts François Keller, coach of the reserve team.

“I am not at all surprised by his good career with OM.

He is a great professional who knows football, a man with great human qualities, in terms of management he is wise, he has a calming side.

He has always advocated collective values, ”summarizes Jean-Marc Kuentz, Thierry Laurey's assistant in Strasbourg and who worked with Nasser Larguet when he was in Alsace.

"I am wary of praise"

This is what he appreciated by leading the professional workforce of OM.

“It's a group that makes me happy, with which I enjoyed working, that I made adhere to the ideas of appeasement and a return to normalcy.

We were able to work with a lot of serenity, ”he was satisfied.

A successful adventure to the point of making him want to continue on the bench of a professional workforce?

“I am experiencing this positive feedback well but I am not getting carried away.

I am wary of praise.

It is to the players that we must address them, they are at our disposal to return to the fundamentals of football.

And you know, I've already had a great career, ”he retorted after the draw against Lyon.

More requirements at the training center

Nasser Larguet will return to the OM training center, with a new form of requirement for young people.

“OM will be more demanding in relation to their entry into the pro workforce, with excellence in recruiting young people.

If they sign a pro contract, they will have to perform well with the pro team after six months, a year.

This requirement will be applied very quickly, ”he warned.

But before that, he will meet with Franck McCourt, "who wishes to congratulate him for what he has accomplished", confides his entourage, before discussing with Jorge Sampaoli "the state of the group and [his] training function ”.

A first victory in the league, which is more against the leader, would be a nice gift of goodbye.
