Winter Olympic Games: New technology raises the human body temperature by 10℃-15℃

  Technology Winter Olympics

In recent days, the cold spring is expected, and the temperature in the Zhangjiakou competition area of the 2022 Winter Olympics has dropped back to below 0°C.

At the end of February, the reporter came to the continuous actual measurement site carried out by the national key research and development plan science and technology Winter Olympics key special project "track environment construction and watching environment guarantee technology research" team, and saw that its research and development results can feel the human body in a cold environment. The temperature increase by 10℃-15℃ means that this can provide effective thermal comfort protection for the audience and staff during the future Winter Olympic Games.

In 2022, watching a Winter Olympics game live is the first time for many people to experience the charm of ice and snow sports.

However, if the on-site game viewing experience is not good, this incentive effect may be greatly reduced.

In the winter room appearance competition, the biggest dilemma is that it is cold and windy. Human body temperature is very low, and there is even a risk of frostbite.

In the Zhangjiakou competition area, it is very common that the temperature in the stadium is as low as -10℃ or even -20℃.

It is understood that in previous Winter Olympics, a large number of spectators left the stadium early due to the cold on site, media reporters and volunteers were unable to work normally due to freezing hands and feet, and the event organizers lacked consideration for the thermal comfort of the personnel in the stadium. , Attracted a lot of complaints.

In order to avoid the above problems from appearing in the 2022 Winter Olympics, since 2018, the project leader Cao Bin, associate professor of the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, and his team have carried out a series of basic research and equipment research and development, and strive to operate in the extreme cold conditions of ice and snow sports venues. Provide a warmer and more comfortable watching guarantee for the general audience, thereby enhancing the watching experience.

According to Cao Bin, the research team used the thermal regulation of the human body as the theoretical basis for the research, using the thermal manikin to simulate the heat production and heat dissipation process of a real person, and placing the thermal manikin under different meteorological conditions. The surface temperature of various parts of the person and the derived index can be used to judge the thermal comfort status of the person.

It is understood that in the design of thermal comfort protection measures, researchers pay attention to the application of new functional materials on the one hand, including aerogel thermal insulation materials, flexible graphene heating materials, metal oxide semiconductor heating materials, etc.; on the other hand, fully Considering the actual scene of the watching area and the audience's watching behavior, the form of thermal comfort protection measures has been designed with targeted innovation.

For example, the research team has developed a high-performance cold-proof heating clothing with wind-proof, heat-preservation and heating effects, and upgraded it on the basis of the overall heat-preservation performance of the outerwear to provide continuous and stable local heating to the abdomen, waist and other parts of the human body; , Making a fuss on the seats and handrails of the auditorium, the researchers ingeniously combined the heating function with the facilities of these venues.

The analysis of experimental data shows that after adopting the above-mentioned thermal comfort protection measures, the human body temperature can be increased by at least 10℃-15℃.

At the same time, these measures also have the advantages of rapid onset, flexible adjustment, and low cost.

During the Spring Festival, the 2022 Winter Olympics test activities were held in Zhangjiakou competition area, and Cao Bin's team brought its research and development results to the site for testing and inspection.

In the meantime, many staff who came and went indoors felt that the temperature was very comfortable and thought this experiment was very meaningful.

In fact, in addition to the audience, these results benefit the staff in the venue, including security personnel, media reporters, volunteers, etc., because they have to work in the cold outdoor environment for a long time.

Undoubtedly, the thermal comfort protection measure is to send charcoal in the snow.
