The obligatory goal anthem boomed through the stadium boxes.

When “Song 2” by Blur roared through the stadium at Millerntor, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh started a backflip.

The striker had just shot FC St. Pauli with his goal in the 88th minute to win the derby against Hamburger SV.

Outside the stadium there was also great jubilation, fans of FC St. Pauli celebrated the 1-0 victory against their unloved city rivals.

After a year of ghost games, there was a football atmosphere around the Millerntor.

The St. Pauli fans made sure not only for the decisive goal of the evening.

When the teams stepped onto the lawn before kick-off, fans set off New Year's Eve rockets and pyros around the stadium.

It was an atmospheric start to a heated derby.

"The Derby victory means for every St. Pauli fan that he goes to work with a big grin," said St. Pauli trainer Timo Schultz proudly.

His team is currently the team of the hour in the second division - with five wins from the last six games, St. Pauli has impressively shot its way out of the table cellar.

“Outstanding, absolutely awesome!

The St. Pauli fans will enjoy it very much, ”said defender Philipp Ziereis.

As huge as the jubilation in and around the stadium at St. Pauli was, the disappointment at HSV was just as great.

The Hamburgers are once again about to gamble away their promotion.

Only two points from the last four games let Daniel Thioune's team slip to fourth place in the table.

Although the gap to the relegation place is only one and to the front runner Bochum three points, the signal that HSV sends with the derby defeat is fatal.

Once again the team failed to deliver in an important game.

Thioune also knows that, who deliberately increased the importance of the game in advance: "We raised the derby to one level because we know what we can do with it."

His team did not succeed once again.

"The moment feels crappy right now," said Tioune after the defeat.

In the period in which St. Pauli had five wins, HSV only scored six points.

"This defeat doesn't feel good," said Thioune.

It hurts a lot: “It's difficult to think directly about the next two games now.” But the club has to quickly reverse the trend in order not to fail for the third year in a row.

The next two opponents could not be more prominent at the moment: Next Monday, HSV will play against second Holstein Kiel, a week later the team will have to go to leaders Bochum.
