  • Nîmes and Nantes, in the fight for maintenance, could not lose.

  • With their parity score combined with the victory of Lorient, they slipped to 18th and 19th place in Ligue 1.

For these two teams who played their skin in Ligue 1, it was the match not to lose.

And, ultimately, none of them are relieved.

Nîmes Olympique and FC Nantes were indeed neutralized 1-1 Sunday afternoon at the Stade des Costières.

In the standings, it is even more of a bad operation since Lorient, another direct opponent in the fight for maintenance, won at the same time (2-1 against Saint-Etienne).

The Gardois therefore slip to 18th place and the Nantes residents are, for the first time this season, 19th and therefore relegated.

The three teams stand at two points.

The Nîmes awakening could have hurt

It was Nantes which opened the scoring following a nice number from Randal Kolo Muani punctuated by a retreating center converted by Ludovic Blas (26th).

A goal that rewarded a first half clearly dominated by the visitors.

The second half was, however, much more balanced.

The Nîmes began to push and equalized with a somewhat lucky goal from Moussa Konaté (76th).

The latter found himself surprisingly alone face in the area thanks to a relaunch against Nantes Jean-Charles Castelletto.

The Gardois could even have hit the nail on the head two minutes later without an exceptional save from goalkeeper Alban Lafont on a close-range header from Florian Miguel.

"We will not let go of this club"

“It's not a good result.

We would have deserved the victory.

But on a bad release, we pay cash ”, reacts hot, annoyed, the defender canary Jean-Charles Castelletto, at the microphone of Canal +.

“We have shown that we have heart and that we will not let go of this club.

We will give everything to the end, ”comments the Nîmes goalkeeper Baptise Reynet.

Nîmes and Nantes, who both recently changed coaches, paradoxically remained on a good series: four games without defeat for the Crocos, three for the FCN.

They still have eleven meetings to try to save themselves in Ligue 1
