After 22 duels without a win, FC Emmen just booked its second victory in a row on Saturday.

The team of trainer Dick Lukkien already seemed written off, but enforcement is suddenly realistic again.

"I had to say for a long time this season that we continued to believe in it and that we kept faith. We have now got rid of all that whining," Lukkien told

Emmen surprised with a 0-1 win over FC Utrecht, a week after it had finally booked its first win of the season against PEC Zwolle (3-2).

As a result, the team from Drenthe is on twelve points and Willem II (14) and ADO Den Haag (15) suddenly come into sight.

"We had to come from far, but the teams above us have to take us into account again," said Lukkien with satisfaction.

"If we keep putting this game on the mat, with this discipline, a lot is still possible."

Not only the victory over Utrecht made the last-minute trainer happy, but also the way in which it did.

"I really enjoyed it. Technically, tactically and physically it was good for us. The only criticism is that we score too few goals."

"We can play nice football, we have shown that in several matches. But if you are going to win, then others will also notice", said Lukkien.

"In a number of matches we got too little. That was also our fault, we were not clinical enough in the completion and simply conceded the goals."

'On Friday we will try to take Sparta as well'

Goalkeeper Michael Verrips excelled against Utrecht with a few clever saves.

And the other winter acquisitions Kerim Frei and Luka Adzic also make the team stronger.

"We now have a team that plays well together and defends well," said Lukkien.

"Then you can keep the zero against a good team like Utrecht and create opportunities yourself."

Emmen has self-confidence again, the coach wanted to say.

"Now we will try to take Sparta on Friday."
