Ajax completed the sale of Quincy Promes to Spartak Moscow on Wednesday.

The attacker provides the Amsterdammers with an amount of 8 million euros, which can rise to 11 million euros through bonuses.

Promes signs with the club for 3.5 years, also under contract between 2014 and 2018.

Promes was taken over from Seville by Ajax in the summer of 2019 for more than 15 million euros.

Thanks to bonuses, that amount could rise to more than 17 million euros.

The transfer of 29-year-old Promes had been coming for a while.

For that reason, the born Amsterdammer no longer belonged to the selection of trainer Erik ten Hag in the last weeks.

Ten Hag announced the transfer a little earlier on Wednesday.

"Quincy is a great player, he did a fantastic job last season," he said.

"I wish him this step. All success in Russia, if that continues. But we assume that."

Promes' return to Russia was somewhat delayed due to the private situation of the 47-time Orange international, who was arrested in December on suspicion of involvement in a stabbing.

He is now free again, but still a suspect in that case, which made Spartak a bit hesitant.

Promes was successful at Spartak

Now that an agreement has been reached, Promes returns to the club where he impressed between 2014 and 2018.

At the time, the former Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente player scored 66 goals and 33 assists in 135 official games.

He celebrated one league title.

During his one and a half year long stay at Ajax, Promes was also important.

In the shirt of the team from Amsterdam, he scored 22 goals and gave an assist six times in 53 duels.

In the past winter transfer period, Ajax already responded to a departure from Promes by renting Oussama Idrissi from Seville.

The Russian transfer market closes on Thursday.
