According to a proposal by the former swimming star Michael Groß, those entitled to vaccinate should voluntarily give way to corona protection athletes for an Olympic start.
"Other vaccinees could 'donate' their privilege to athletes," wrote the Olympic champion on Tuesday in a post on the professional network Xing.
The reason for the initiative, which the 56-year-old himself described as an “unusual idea in an extraordinary time”, is the so-called playbook.
This sets out the hygiene measures and rules of conduct for the Olympic Games in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8.
Adhering to this is not possible even in a non-contact sport like swimming, said Groß and concluded: "Without a vaccination of all those involved, the Olympics cannot take place with a clear conscience."
Associations and athletes have recently spoken out repeatedly against preferring athletes to be vaccinated against the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
Priority in immunization are given to the particularly vulnerable elderly, people with health problems, and medical and nursing staff.

Groß, who was nicknamed "Albatros" because of his swimming style, also sees his proposal as an idea to preserve equal opportunities.
“Because each country has to decide individually whether and how the athletes will be vaccinated in time for the Olympics.
A number of countries are guaranteed not to hesitate to protect their athletes, ”assumed the three-time Olympic champion.
