It took him a little over 101 days to complete his solo round the world trip.

Miranda Merron crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe on Wednesday evening in 22nd position.

She was sailing on the boat Imoca Campagne de France.

The Briton, based in Barneville-Carteret in La Manche, was competing for the first time in this race non-stop and without assistance.

The 51-year-old sailor arrived off Sables d'Olonne at 10:16 pm after 101 days 08 hours 56 minutes and 51 seconds of racing.

Miranda Merron is the third woman to complete this edition of the Vendée Globe after Clarisse Cremer (Banque Populaire X) who finished in 12th position and the other Briton Pip Hare (Medallia), in 19th place.

The Vendée Globe was won on January 28 by Frenchman Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq IV), in just over 80 days.

Three more skippers in the race

After Merron, three competitors remain in the race: the French Manuel Cousin (Groupe Sétin), at 608 miles (1,126 km) from the finish on Wednesday in the 6pm standings and Alexia Barrier (TSE-4myplanet), at 2,227 miles as well as Finland's Ari Huusela (Stark), currently in last position at 2,573 miles.
