The last frontier - can you jump further?
Simone Biles
tries to emulate a jump whose difficulty is still a deterrent in men's competitions.
The most successful gymnast of all time is preparing to cross another frontier at the Tokyo Games, where she could add a 'Yurchenko' combined with a 'Yang Wei' to her colt repertoire.
"It's scary. If you fall short you can damage your ankles. It is a very dangerous maneuver," revealed his coach,
Laurent Landi
, on the CBS network microphones.
This verdict highlights the difficulty of the combinations.
The technical description of the jump includes the push round on the springboard, known as 'Yurchenko', and the double pike back flip, known as 'Yang Wei', the 2000 Sydney Olympic champion.
FIG Earrings
This is a new twist for Biles, who in the summer of 2019 already surprised the experts with two pirouettes hitherto impossible for any woman.
It was the "double triple" on the ground and "double double" at the exit of the balance beam.
This last element was later re-evaluated by the International Federation (FIG), which did not want to give it a large bonus, considering it too dangerous.
Now, the FIG will also have to make a decision with this new input.
If another similar decision of the regulatory body is added to the risks of the jump, it will be very unlikely that Biles will bet on its execution during the Tokyo Games.
