Johan Granath took World Cup gold in sprint in 1976. But when it comes to the longer skating distances, it is Göran Claeson's gold from Dutch Deventer 1973 who is the latest Swedish gold medalist.

The 75-year-old missed the 5000-meter race on Thursday when he was wrong on what day the competition was.

He did not make that mistake when van der Poel drove his favorite distance on Sunday.

- Now I have not missed anything!

I have checked every insert.

We are euphoric here.

It's crazy, says Claeson.

"It is not wise"

What was it like to follow the race?

- It's clear that it's a little nervous.

He makes an incredible achievement.

The pressure he has on himself and from his surroundings, and to go out and set world records.

That's not wise.

It's a feat.

An incredible feat.

Was it time for new Swedish World Cup gold, considering that so many years have passed since yours?

- Yes, this is what is really needed, so we get some media appreciation and so on.

"Great guy"

Does this bring old memories to life for you?

- No not really.

I do not live in the past but only rejoice in Nils.

How fun.

I cant find any words.

Göran Claeson says that he met Nils van der Poel when he was down in Amsterdam at the World Cup 2018.

- He's a really nice guy.

I've met him next door too.

He is incredibly focused on what he does.
