The players in England's second highest football league, The Championship, have knelt before kick-off as an action against racism.

The gesture came in support of the Black Lives Matter movement after this spring's police violence against blacks in the United States.

But now Brentford, where Swedish Pontus Jansson plays, announces in a press release that they will no longer perform the knee bend.

The players who made the decision

It is the players themselves who have made the decision as they believe that the action no longer has any effect.

Instead, they believe that there are other ways to encourage gender equality that are more favorable.

"This decision has come after long discussions in the group.

There is a clear need to continue to fight to end all discrimination and, as players, we will be a part of it in Brentford, in football in general and in society at large, ”they write in the press release.

Brentford meet Barnsley on Sunday and the change is already being implemented for that match.

However, they point out that they will support other clubs that want to go down on their knees before the matches.
