On February 13, at the age of 86, the legendary Soviet weightlifter Yuri Vlasov died. During his career, the illustrious athlete set 31 world records, and in 1960 he won a gold medal at the Olympics in Rome. His track record also includes silver at the 1964 Games in Tokyo, four victories at the world championships and six at the European championships. At the end of his career, he was engaged in literary and political activities, headed the Federation of Weightlifting and Athletic Gymnastics of the USSR, and in 1996 ran for the presidency of Russia.
