If even the well-traveled and experienced Boris Becker is amazed, something extraordinary must have happened.

"I've never seen it like this before," said the three-time Wimbledon winner and long-time tennis professional on Saturday at the Australian Open in his role as Eurosport expert and spoke of an "unusual situation".

What happened?

During the third-round match between world number four Daniil Medvedev and Serb Filip Krajinovic, the Russian was so upset about his French coach Gilles Cervara and at least so much about himself that he first insulted him in French and then even about leaving Rod Laver Arena prompted.

Cervara first looked in the direction of his protégé in astonishment, then shouldered his sports bag and withdrew from the stands out of sight of the emotionally charged Medvedev.

Medvedev later revealed that his coach kept intervening.

"I yell at him, but I'm mad at myself," said the ATP Finals champion.

"Somebody has to serve." Of course he would work it up with him, of course they are still good friends, Medvedev assured.

After all, the short-term departure seemed to have helped: Medvedev won 6: 3, 6: 3, 4: 6, 3: 6, 6: 0.
