There are no more Frenchmen in contention in the men's table of the Australian Open after the defeat of Adrian Mannarino, 36th in the world, sharply beaten Friday in the third round by the German Alexander Zverev (7th), 6- 3, 6-3, 6-1, in just 1h46.

Mannarino was the last of the ten Frenchmen entered in this first Grand Slam tournament of the year.

The Karatsev surprise

The French chances now rest on the shoulders of Fiona Ferro (46th), who will have a lot to do at the end of the morning against Iga Swiatek (17th), the winner of the last Roland Garros, and Kristina Mladenovic (52nd), who will face Saturday the American Jessica Pegula (61st) for a place in the round of 16.

Also note among the results of the night the surprising victory of Russian Aslan Karatsev, out of qualifying for the first time in his career at 27 and who eliminated in the 3rd round a member of the world top 10, Diego Schwartzman.

The Argentinean is certainly not at his best, but there was not even a match, Karatsev winning in three quick sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-3).

“It's an incredible feeling.

I was already happy to have qualified.

And now, lap after lap, I play very good tennis, ”he said without much effusion.
