Osaka turns the nightmare into a dream at the Australian Championships

Naomi Osaka dreamed that she would lose her match in the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament, but in reality she easily beat Caroline Garcia 6-2 6-3 on Wednesday.

Garcia did not manage to score a single break-serve point during the match, as the third-ranked Japanese player put in a powerful performance that saw ten aces on a quiet evening at Road Liver.

"Before the match I was very nervous and had a bad dream about it," Osaka told reporters.

"For me, my dreams tell me what will happen in the future. Usually my dream comes true in reality. Last night I dreamed that I lost this match and I really didn't feel comfortable about it."

French Garcia, who was once ranked fourth in the world but is currently in 43rd place, can be a tough competition as she strikes hard from the back line of the field, which helped her win six times over the top five in the world.

Osaka said she discussed the dream with her supporting team, which helped her deal with the match.

"I just thought that I could not control what you do during the match, and only control what I do. I think that was the reason for my good performance in the serves, because theoretically the serves are the only thing that can be controlled in tennis."

US Open champion Osaka, who last lost a Grand Slam tournament to Coco Gove in the third round at Melbourne Park last year, will meet Tunisian Anas Jaber in the next round.
