Canadian Bianca Andreescu really broke through in 2019, when she won the US Open as the first Canadian and climbed to fourth place in the world rankings.

Since then, she had not played a single Grand Slam tournament.

She missed the entire last year's season due to a knee injury she suffered shortly after the US Open.

Stable first match

But in the Australian Open 2021 she was back.

However, that competition was short for the 20-year-old.

After a stable effort in the first round against Mihaela Buzarnescu, there was a loss last night against the Taiwanese, who won 6-3, 6-3.

Andreescu got a nightmare start and ended up in a 0-4 disadvantage in the first set.

She then came back a little, but not enough to turn around.

In the second set, the Taiwanese broke early, and Andreescu then ended the match with a double fault in the 30-degree heat.

- I went off the track, looked at my coach and said "I am disappointed that this day was my last here".

"I know I gave everything I had, and that's what disappoints me the most," Andreescu said after the match, according to the BBC.
