Alexander Büttner left Apollon Limassol from Cyprus within two weeks.

Opinions on the cause of the break differ.

Apollon reported in January that it had taken over Büttner from the American club New England Revolution.

But the 31-year-old defender did not play a single game in Cyprus.

According to

Cyprus Times

, Büttner failed the fitness test at the medical examination.

The former player of Vitesse and Manchester United, among others, would have been too heavy.

Facing

the Gelderlander

, the Büttner camp disputes this.

“Agreements were not kept,” is the player's reading before the quick break.

Büttner has since returned to the Netherlands.

Apollon is the current leader in Greece and has Diego Biseswar and Charlison Benschop under contract.
