Arminia Bielefeld's home game against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Sunday evening has been canceled due to the massive onset of winter.

The snow-covered place in the arena is not playable, announced the German Football League (DFL).

In the morning, after a site inspection, with the approval of the DFL, attempts were still made to do everything possible to make the site playable.

"Arminia employees will clear the lawn of snow in the next few hours," the club announced.

But without any prospect of success, as it turned out later.

East Westphalia is particularly hard hit by the onset of winter.

During the night there was sometimes up to 30 centimeters of snow there.

The A2 motorway from Dortmund in the direction of Hanover was also temporarily closed between Bielefeld-Süd and Bielefeld-Ost due to the massive snowfall on Sunday morning.

The winter service on Bielefelder Berg could not keep up with clearing the road.

The route was opened to traffic again after around two hours.
