Last year, the competition in Eriksdalsbadet could not be carried out due to the corona pandemic.

Now the organizer has received the go-ahead from the City of Stockholm for a corona-adapted edition April 8-11 without an audience - unless the infection control situation deteriorates compared to now.

A total of 350 swimmers from 16 countries will participate - in 2019, just over 1,100 swimmers participated.

The late decision last year to cancel was costly and this year's competition will also result in a financial loss.

- An ordinary year we have a small positive margin for Swim Open, last year was very expensive.

It was not a million, but it became very expensive.

This year we will stay below half a million in losses.

We intend to come back with a grand event in 2022 and then it is important for the brand that we continue to arrange, says Fredriksson.

Swim Open is one of the qualifying competitions before the Olympics and Sarah Sjöström is the biggest draw.

Among foreign stars are the Dane Pernille Blume, Olympic gold winner in the 50 meters freestyle 2016, and German world champion Marco Koch, 200 meters breaststroke.
