37-year-old Canadian Jason Spezza's point production has been steadily declining in recent years.

But maybe the old draft runner-up from the NHL draft in 2001 got a fresh start during his second season in star-studded Toronto.

Against Vancouver, Spezza shot his first hat-trick in five years, where two of the performances came from Swedish William Nylanders club.

Afterwards, Spezza was hailed by teammate and star Auston Matthews.

- Spezza means a lot to the team, more than many people think.

It was fun to see him tonight.

He stood for a real show and deserves it.

He works so hard every day, and to be able to be so dedicated to the sport and the team at this time in his career is fantastic to see, Matthews tells nhl.com

Tops the entire league

Matthews himself scored two of the goals, including the important 3-1 goal three minutes into the second period.

In addition to two plays for Spezza, William Nylander got another assist when he was behind John Tavare's goal until 5-2.

This is the fifth win in six games for Toronto, which tops the Canadian division, north division - and the Maple Leafs also top the entire NHL with 17 points in eleven games.
