It's the end after a transfer dispute.

The French first division side Olympique Marseille has split from coach André Villas-Boas after the Portuguese offered the club his resignation.

The reason is a player that Marseille brought to France against the wishes of his coach.

Villas-Boas had made it clear that he disagreed with the announced arrival of new signing Olivier Ntcham from Celtic Glasgow: "This is a player I said no to." He heard about the transfer from the media, criticized Villas -Boas.

"I submitted my resignation and said that I did not agree with the sporting direction," said the coach.

"I don't want any money, I just want to go."

The club made unacceptable remarks in a statement and even reserved sanctions against Villas-Boas.

"This decision has become inevitable given the recent repetition of actions and attitudes that seriously harm Olympique Marseille and its staff," the club wrote in the statement.

The 43-year-old came to OM in 2019, having previously coached FC Porto, Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Zenit St. Petersburg, among others.

Weekend riots

This is the second time the club has hit the headlines in a short time.

On Saturday riots broke out near Marseille.

Around 300 fans tried to use force to gain access to the club's training grounds in the southern French port city.

25 people were arrested.

Video recordings showed that numerous fans of the Marseille club were holding smoke fires in their hands and throwing firecrackers.

As the local police wrote on Twitter, some of the supporters also attacked police officers.

The Ligue 1 game against Stade Rennes was then postponed.

The traditional club is currently ninth, the next game should take place this Wednesday at RC Lens.
