The former international of Dax Jean-Pierre Bastiat, winner of the 1977 grand slam with the XV of France, died Wednesday at 71 years of age following a stroke, we learned from his entourage.

Bastiat, third-line center or imposing second-line (1.99 m, 110 kilos), remained faithful throughout his career to Dax, was a figure of rugby in the 1970s. He had totaled 32 selections for the French team, some of which were as captain.

Jean-Pierre BASTIAT, monument of rugby and French sport, went away tonight.

Hero of the 1977 Grand Slam, emblematic player of Dax, he was a radiant man, committed and turned towards others.

I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones.

Chairman of Dax from 1990 to 1995

His association in the third row with Jean-Pierre Rives and Jean-Claude Skrela was one of the bases of the 1977 grand slam, won with the same fifteen players.

A sprained knee that prematurely ended his playing career in 1978, Bastiat became leader of US Dax, which he chaired from 1990 to 1995.
