It is a coup that has succeeded: The German Swimming Association has brought the Dutchman Jacco Verhaeren, 51, into its national coaching team.

Verhaeren, who has already started his work, is one of the most successful coaches in the world, a coach of the format and prestige of Pep Guardiola compared to football.

As an exercise bike, he formed, among others, Pieter van den Hoogenband and Inge de Bruijn into Olympic champions, brought the Netherlands far forward and then moved to Australia as head coach in 2014.

With success: Verhaeren helped the stumbling swimming nation to its old strength.

In autumn he returned to his homeland - he was unable to extend his contract, which ran until the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, for a year for family reasons.
