“It changes a man to do the Vendée Globe…” These are the first words of the Nantes skipper Armel Tripon (

) who crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe in Les Sables d'Olonne on Monday after 84 days, 17 hours, 7 minutes and 50 seconds at sea, one time placing him in 11th place.

For his first participation in the solo round the world race, Tripon, 45, cited as an outsider at the start of the race, had to review his ambitions after only three days of racing.

Her latest generation boat suffered a problem with the mast on the approach of tropical storm Theta.

Falling to 32nd place due to a new problem a week later, Tripon made a good comeback, crossing the equator in 24th place, then in 17th place the Cape of Good Hope and finally in 13th the Cape Horn.

The last hours experienced by the Nantes sailor were difficult because he found himself in the middle of storm Justine, in tough conditions.

"You have to have toured the planet to realize that it is here that we have the biggest fights," laughed the Nantais on his arrival.
