Armand Duplantis won the pole vault competition in Düsseldorf in 6.01, and thus became the pole vaulter who jumped the highest in the world in 2021.

But he lost the world record just a few hours later, when Renaud Lavillenie - who was a world record holder before Duplantis took over the world record last year.

Lavillenie hit his first six-meter jump since March 2016. Lavillenie jumped 6.02 at a competition in French Tourcoing.

- It is really a pleasure to return to this level.

I knew I could do six meters, but I did not think I would do it so early in the season.

When I see how I managed 6.01, I feel that it is possible to manage 6.05 and 6.10 this winter and fight for the Olympic title this summer, says the 34-year-old, according to La Voix des Sports.

Lavillenie also made an attempt at the world record height of 6.20, but failed.
