On Wednesday, it became clear that Martin Ödegaard will play for Arsenal for the rest of the season.

In Saturday's rival meeting with Manchester United, however, the Norwegian had to start on the bench where Swedish Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was back in the starting eleven and made a solid effort in the middle defense.

It was United who were closest to a goal in the first half several times, partly after a free kick by Bruno Fernandes that went via David Luiz in the wall and close over the crossbar.

But perhaps the best save of the match was Arsenal's Bernd Leno when he got his fingertips on a finish from Fred, but it was goalless at the break.

Lacazette shot in the crossbar

When the break was over, it was instead Arsenal who would create the hotter chances and again this time it was a fixed situation.

Alexandre Lacazette struck a 30 meter free kick home 26 minutes into the match.

The team then created several hot situations but without getting the ball in goal and there were probably many Arsenal supporters waiting for a certain Norwegian.

Ödegaard came in

And in the 83rd minute he would also enter the pitch but he would not succeed in creating anything of value during his time on the pitch.

Instead, United would get the last chance when Edinson Cavani shot just outside in the final stages of the match, but the match would remain goalless.

The result means that Manchester United remains in second place, three points behind Man City who earlier on Saturday won at home against Sheffield United with 1-0.

Arsenal are in eighth place.
