Bayern Munich announces that two players have been infected with the Corona virus

Bayern Munich, the German and European champions, announced on Friday that their players, Leon Goritska and Spaniard Javi Martinez, had been infected with the Corona virus.

"Lyon and Xavi are in quarantine and will be out of service for the time being. It is unfortunate that it (the virus) infected both of them ... everything has been coordinated with the health authorities," coach Hanzi Flick said on the sidelines of the meeting with his guest Hoffenheim Saturday in the league.

Saturday's match is considered a revenge for the Bavarian giants, who suffered one defeat in 2020 against Hoffenheim in the second phase of the current season, with a score of 4-1 last September.

Goritzka (25 years) is considered one of the most important elements of Bayern Munich after he started in 12 out of 18 matches in the Bundesliga this season compared to three for Martinis (32 years), whose contract expires next June.

Flick also revealed that second goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel would not be available for "three to four weeks" after suffering an ankle injury during training.

The German champion in the last eight seasons leads the league standings, 7 points ahead of Leipzig, second.
