At 8:50 p.m., the world collapsed around him.

While he could still hope to win the race around the world thanks to the six hours of bonuses available to him for having taken part in the rescue operations for Kevin Escoffier, skipper Boris Herrmann lost everything 90 miles from the finish line.

Indeed, his boat (SeaExplorer-Yacht Club de Monaco) collided with a trawler.

No one was injured in the collision, but his IMOCA was seriously damaged.

"I have never experienced such a thing at sea."

Boris Herrmann says: “All of a sudden, I saw a wall next to me, the boats got tangled up, I heard men screaming.

The bowsprit of her boat was broken, her headsail torn and a foil was damaged.

Even more annoying, the starboard shroud broke, the cable preventing the mast from falling to the side.

"I have never experienced such a thing at sea," admitted the skipper, second at the time of the incident.

Most importantly, no one was hurt.

Boris Herrmann is expected this Thursday morning.
